Eat..VEGA

No Time . . . Read The Highlights

NOTE: I am under no contract or obligation to write the following I just believe in what works and I will always promote what I believe in without kickback . . . Thank you . . Hey just do what work works best for you . . . . Now get out there and rack up some Km's . . . .

Look I'm not here to preach to you about food or nutrition I'm just stating the FACTS on what has worked for me. So take it as you will though I would hope that 10,451 km's and counting would speak for its self. At the very least I hope you have gained a little insight and inspiration . . .

Because of necessity meaning budget and bang for my buck I keep it simple. I don't carry Freeze dried meals because they are very expensive averaging about $13 a day for four meals. That's roughly 1200 calories, with no where near all the nutrition I require, and taking up a lot of space. I don't eat Beef Jerky because of the high Sodium content which increases thirst so I have to constantly filter or find water. Not worth it.

So what do I eat? I Carry plenty of Seeds, Nuts, and Dried Fruit that I mix myself to control the Sodium content that pack a big caloric punch to weight ratio. (I just double bag them in Heavy Duty Freezer Bags which I reuse as they last a very long time) This includes Raw Almonds, Sunflower Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Peanuts, Raisins, Dried Cranberries or whatever else I feel like. Hemp Hearts are an amazing super food that I think are critical to any hiking mix. They are easy to snack on saving time that can be used to write, explore meet and talk to people. I carry an assortment of "Energy Bars" whatever is available in the community I have hiked too. (Lol . . . I sometimes have very limited options having once lived on Molasses Cookies and Chips for days as I was out of all else and the remote store I had come across was closing down and that's all that was left.) I also carry and assortment of Tea's mainly Green which I may prepare throughout the day or in the evening for a little energy boost or some warmth and comfort. For this I'm usually in the wilderness and carry a small pot for boiling water. Anywhere else I am not afraid to knock on doors and ask for the hot water . . . I have made many contacts and friends in this way.

When I hike extreme distances I eat to live not live to eat. When I do get a home cooked meal I assure you I appreciate it like no other, and will eat anything and everything in front of me. On the rare occasion in the cities I dine out. I go to grocery stores where I will buy foods for a picnic weather permitting. I can't just pick and choose my days, which I think makes it all the more rewarding. Hey I've been known to forage in the forest for food which includes Cattail, and all kinds of Berries, though you shouldn't eat anything your not completely certain of.

We should all know by now we need vegetables packed full of Vitamin's and Minerals to live or at least to live well. On the trail in remote area's I take a meal replacement Vega which I just mix and drink. This saves on time which I use to write, explore, meet and greet people. I believe it is a huge factor in my success. . . Please Read On . . .

Can't express how much this has contributed to my success . . .

No I am not a "Vegan" or "Vegetarian" or any other label we tend to paste on people. I just do what works. What's best for me and my environment. Doing my small but collectively big part to contribute to our only home and those persons in it.

I discovered Vega while in St. Johns Newfoundland preparing for my first season of hiking. I needed a meal replacement that would provide me with all the Vitamins, Minerals, and Protein I could get. (They nicknamed Nfld. "TheRock" for a reason good luck growing vegetables.)

Enter Vega the "Complete Whole Food Health Optimizer" I have used this product ever since. I have tried all the flavours but have grown very fond of the Vanilla Chai. I simply buy a 979 Gram tub and double bag it in 2 heavy duty Zip Lock Freezer Bags then place it Mid-Weight Into My "MEC Ibex 80 Backpack" When I hike I take 2 Scoops in the morning for breakfast mixed with water, Cayenne Pepper, and Cinnamon. (Can't carry much else) and 1-2 Scoops at night before bed while stretching. Cayenne? Cinnamon? Read Further . . .

When I'm not tearing up the trail I mix 1 Scoop Vanilla Chai Vega in a blender with Vanilla Almond Milk, Half Avacado, Half Banana, Tablespoon of Cinnimon, (helps balance blood sugar) .25 Teaspoon of Cheyenne powder, (Improves circulation) and 3 Tablespoons Shelled Hemp Hearts. I mix it up from time to time but it's delicious and extremely nutritious. I think the following info is "proof in the pudding" so to speak . . . Here Is The Pudding . . . .
